... A good way to describe the Union Street Bakery is the kind of place that would fit right into Hollywood’s imagining of the perfect town. The walls are decorated with local art and some homey touches. A giant vintage fridge sits in the back, looking like something straight out of Pleasant-ville. ... it's such a perfect match for my neighborhood that it feels like it has always been here. The owner, Sandra Holland, has many years of experience as a caterer, baker and business woman. She also has an Associates Degree from RISD in Culinary Arts with a focus on pastry. When I first moved to Brunswick, Sandy was running the Humble Gourmet, a similar bakery/sandwich shop but in a less hospitable location. Her new venture is located on a quiet, tree-lined side street near the public library and in easy walking distance to everything in Brunswick, including my house...

Foodies that we are, with a particular attraction to baked goods, we noticed the appearance of a new establishment in town in the last few months. It’s on Union Street, between Pleasant and Cumberland, in the stand-alone shop we frequently patronized when it was Tetreault’s Market. ... a changing selection of cookies, bars and pastries to go with the cakes and pies made to order. I decided to forgo them that day, but while I was writing this up decided I had an obligation to go purchase something sweet and eat it immediately. The cream cheese brownie, moist and gooey and frosted with a layer of chocolate was just the ticket, and I ate almost the whole thing on the way home.... full article
